Creating a calming or quiet corner in your home can be an effective way to help manage escalating feelings and provide a place of retreat. In order to create a calming corner in your home try to find a space that delivers gentle light and minimal noise distractions. From there you can fill the space with a number of items and textures to further advocate for a relaxing atmosphere! These items can include:

  • Visuals or objects to facilitate deep breathing- Bubbles or a pinwheel
  • Relaxing music
  • Stress ball
  • Books
  • Items to colour or draw with – your child can use these materials to draw a description of how they are feeling
  • Tactile objects such as soft blankets, pillows, soft toys such as modeling clay or bean bags
